About the position

The Senior Process Improvement Engineer at Houston Methodist is a pivotal member of the Operations and Process Improvement team, responsible for executing strategies and driving continuous performance improvement initiatives. This role involves coaching local process improvement engineers and hospital management on various methodologies, including A3 problem solving and value stream mapping, while focusing on high-priority hospital initiatives related to finance, quality, and efficiency. The position also entails collaborating with leadership and staff to facilitate process improvements and training across the hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training on the Houston Methodist Business System throughout the hospital.
  • Organize multidisciplinary groups to collaboratively solve problems and improve processes.
  • Coach hospital leadership and staff in using Houston Methodist Business System elements and leader standard work.
  • Develop and conduct hospital-wide training related to process improvement methodologies.
  • Lead teams independently and assist with interdisciplinary team leadership and change management.
  • Establish clinical standard work instructions during problem-solving activities.
  • Perform hospital and departmental workflow assessments to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Represent operations/process engineering at local and system committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, process engineering, applied sciences, or related field OR in healthcare/business administration plus Lean management or Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Seven years of experience in quality engineering/process improvement or related field; may consider Houston Methodist employee with six years of experience in quality engineering/process improvement or related field.
  • Three years of experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in industrial engineering, process engineering, applied sciences or related field preferred.
