About the position

The Product Designer at Databricks plays a crucial role in simplifying and enhancing the accessibility of data through innovative design. This position focuses on the machine learning product lifecycle, particularly on serving products like endpoints and AI gateways. The designer will create workflows that enable users to customize large language models (LLMs) with their datasets, catering to both technical and less advanced users. Collaboration with engineering, product management, and other designers is essential to ensure seamless integration of machine learning workflows within the Databricks product ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the general design efforts across the machine learning product lifecycle.
  • Design workflows that empower customers to create LLMs customized with their own datasets.
  • Balance the needs of highly technical practitioners with those of less advanced customers.
  • Gain a deep understanding of Databricks business objectives, users, market opportunities, and competition.
  • Become well-versed in the Databricks product and its personas (Data scientists, data engineers, data analysts, and administrators).
  • Partner closely with other product designers to ensure seamless integration of machine learning workflows.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Product Management, and key leadership to drive initiatives from ideation to completion.
  • Seek and provide design feedback to collaboratively improve the design process.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product design work experience.
  • Unique combination of technical knowledge and visual design skills.
  • Ability to design the big picture while breaking it down for engineering implementation.
  • Proven ability to ship technically challenging yet simple and intuitive products.
  • Strong tradecraft with a vast toolkit for design solutions.
  • Natural communicator who can document and explain design behaviors.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in HCI, Interaction Design, graphic design, computer science, or related disciplines.
  • Portfolio showcasing the end-to-end design process.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing products in the Big Data space.
  • Experience coding in Python, R, SQL, or other relevant languages for data visualization.
