About the position

As a Senior Product Designer for the ArcGIS Map Viewer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience of our web-mapping application. The Map Viewer is a powerful tool that enables users to view, explore, and create interactive web maps within ArcGIS Online. Your designs will help users tell stories, answer questions, and solve real-world problems through the effective use of maps. In this collaborative environment, you will work closely with other designers and product developers to create mapping experiences that connect people, locations, and data, ultimately driving positive change in the world. In this position, you will engage in participatory and iterative design techniques, working alongside developers, product managers, and cross-functional team members to design end-to-end mapping experiences. You will coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and specifications for both new and existing features, ensuring that the designs meet user needs and business objectives. Your responsibilities will include developing personas, user journeys, information architecture diagrams, wireframes, visual designs, and prototypes that effectively communicate your design vision. You will also be responsible for identifying enhancements to product designs through user research, including usability testing, surveys, and customer interviews. By collaborating with leadership and stakeholders, you will suggest and implement improvements to team processes, ensuring that the design solutions you present address business, brand, and user requirements. As a design leader, you will advocate for user-centered design principles and stay updated on the latest product design technologies and trends. Your role will involve conducting peer reviews, gathering usability feedback, and assessing the quality of implementations of your designs and those of your colleagues. Effective communication of conceptual ideas, design rationale, and the specifics of the user-centered design process will be essential as you work with developers, engineers, product managers, and other team members.

Responsibilities

  • Work with developers, product managers, and other cross-functional team members to design end-to-end mapping experiences using participatory and iterative design techniques.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to identify requirements and specifications for the development of new and established features.
  • Develop personas, user journeys, information architecture diagrams, wireframes, visual design and prototypes.
  • Identify enhancements to product designs by conducting user research (usability testing, surveys, customer interviews, and more) with prototypes and fully developed projects for the Map Viewer.
  • Work with leadership and stakeholders to suggest and implement improvements for team processes.
  • Develop and present technical holistic design solutions that address business, brand, and user requirements in the form of wireframes and prototypes.
  • Be a design leader, ensuring that others understand the value and effectiveness of user-centered design by staying up to date on product design technologies and trends.
  • Conduct peer reviews, gather usability feedback, and quality assess implementations of your designs and the designs of others.
  • Effectively communicate conceptual ideas, design rationale, and the specifics of user centered design process to developers, engineers, product managers and other cross-functional team members.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with product design for enterprise SaaS, web-based applications, or similar experience.
  • Experience using Figma, Figma UI Kits, adhering to established pattern libraries and required frameworks.
  • Knowledge of or experience in localization or internationalization.
  • Expertise in accessibility (WCAG 2.0/Section 508 Compliance) and a strong track record of collaborating with developers to address and resolve accessibility-related challenges.
  • Demonstrated self-ownership and initiative in exceeding responsibilities to drive impactful outcomes for the product and team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Embrace a collaborative, data-driven approach with empathy, fostering effective teamwork through a focus on shared goals and mutual respect.
  • An online portfolio that demonstrates your design abilities, how you think, and a strong understanding of client objectives.
  • Bachelor's in human factors, HCI, graphic design, or related field.
