The Sr. Product Designer, Packaging (SPDP) at Ring is a pivotal role focused on enhancing the user experience through innovative packaging design. This position is responsible for the out-of-box experience (OOBE) of Ring's products, guiding the global packaging design strategy to align with customer needs throughout their shopping journey. The SPDP will leverage their expertise in design solutions and materials technology to push creative boundaries and establish design standards in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Collaboration is key, as the designer will work closely with cross-functional teams to utilize user research and data to improve usability, accessibility, and sustainability, ultimately delivering a best-in-class physical unboxing experience. The ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter with extensive experience in developing and refining global design systems for established brands. Their design approach is systematic and human-centered, taking into account the diverse needs of customers. They possess a strong understanding of layout, typography, and unboxing behavior, which supports seamless OOBE and visual design systems. The SPDP prioritizes collaboration, adeptly driving alignment and resolving blockers to ensure timely and on-brief product shipments. Their design thinking is rooted in a commitment to solving real-world problems through rigorous research, intuitive design, and continuous iteration, always keeping the end-user in mind. In this role, the designer will scope and drive the creative development and execution of global packaging and unboxing experiences. They will incorporate post-launch OOBE audits and feedback loops, such as user testing and customer feedback, to optimize designs based on analysis. Continuous improvement of packaging design standards and processes will be a key responsibility, as well as driving the architecture of user experience touchpoints across devices and locales. The SPDP will foster a shared understanding of customer needs and how design, technology, and business intersect to meet those needs, using business requirements and user research to develop design systems, prototypes, high-fidelity mockups, and interaction specifications. They will advocate for the customer in all UX solutions, ensuring their voices are heard and defining patterns to manage and prioritize ideation. Presenting design rationale to business, design, and leadership teams using metrics, behavioral data, and usability findings will also be part of the role, along with identifying blockers and developing clear mitigation plans to communicate effectively with stakeholders. Maintaining design guidelines for international regions to streamline and standardize product packaging is essential, as is meeting all team deadlines and responsibilities by valuing the opinions of others.
