About the position

The Sr. Product Designer, Packaging (SPDP) at Ring is responsible for enhancing the user experience through innovative packaging design and the out-of-box experience (OOBE). This role involves guiding global packaging design strategies, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and utilizing user research to improve usability, accessibility, and sustainability in packaging. The SPDP will push creative boundaries and define design standards in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that customer needs are met throughout their shopping journey.

Responsibilities

  • Scope and drive the creative development and execution for global packaging and unboxing experience.
  • Incorporate post-launch OOBE audits and feedback loops for analysis-based optimization.
  • Lead continuous improvement to packaging design standards and processes.
  • Drive the architecture of user experience touch-points across devices and locales utilizing user design principles.
  • Foster shared understanding of customer needs and how design, technology, and business intersect to meet those needs.
  • Use business requirements and user research to assist in developing design systems, prototypes, high-fidelity mockups, and interaction specifications.
  • Drive UX solutions that advocate for the customer and ensure their voices are heard.
  • Define patterns to manage and prioritize ideation and develop guidelines for global scaling.
  • Present design rationale using metrics, behavioral data, and usability findings to support work.
  • Identify blockers, develop mitigation plans, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Maintain design guidelines for international regions to streamline and standardize product packaging.
  • Meet all team deadlines and responsibilities by valuing others' opinions.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of design experience
  • Have an available online portfolio
  • 6+ years of experience building out templated design systems, mockups, and prototyping in 2D/3D.

  • Experience defining and maintaining design patterns and UX standards
  • Experience with UX design of complex workflows
  • Experience acquiring user data and creating personas and journey maps
  • Experience with hands-on visual design
