About the position

The Sr. Product Designer, Packaging (SPDP) at Ring is a pivotal role focused on enhancing the user experience through innovative packaging design. This position is responsible for the entire out-of-box experience (OOBE), guiding the global packaging design strategy to align with customer needs throughout their shopping journey. The SPDP will leverage their expertise in design solutions and materials technology to push creative boundaries and establish design standards in a fast-paced, scaling environment. Collaboration is key, as the designer will work closely with cross-functional teams to utilize user research and data to improve usability, accessibility, and sustainability, ultimately delivering a best-in-class physical unboxing experience. In this role, the designer will scope and drive the creative development and execution of global packaging and unboxing experiences. They will incorporate post-launch audits and feedback loops, such as user testing and customer feedback, to optimize the design based on analysis. Continuous improvement of packaging design standards and processes will be a priority, as well as driving the architecture of user experience touchpoints across various devices and locales. The SPDP will foster a shared understanding of customer needs and how design, technology, and business intersect to meet those needs. The designer will also be responsible for using business requirements and user research to develop design systems, prototypes, high-fidelity mockups, and interaction specifications. They will advocate for the customer by driving UX solutions that ensure their voices are heard. Additionally, the SPDP will define patterns to manage and prioritize ideation, developing and maintaining guidelines for teammates to apply globally. Presenting design rationale to business, design, and leadership teams using metrics, behavioral data, and usability findings will be essential to substantiate their work. The designer will identify blockers, create mitigation plans, and communicate effectively with stakeholders while maintaining design guidelines for international regions to streamline and standardize product packaging. Meeting team deadlines and valuing the opinions of others will be crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Scope and drive the creative development and execution for global packaging and unboxing experience.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of design experience
  • Have an available online portfolio
  • 6+ years of experience building out templated design systems, mockups, and prototyping in 2D/3D.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience defining and maintaining design patterns and UX standards
  • Experience with UX design of complex workflows
  • Experience acquiring user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, performing user research) and creating personas and journey maps
