About the position

The Sr. Product Development Engineer at Panasonic Eco Solutions will play a pivotal role in planning and executing new product development projects. This position involves leading cross-functional discussions to develop comprehensive product proposals for new developments. The engineer will act as a liaison between various stakeholders, including factories and engineers in Mexico, China, and Japan, as well as sales and customers, to create effective product strategies and realize the specifications identified by the project team. In this role, the engineer will collaborate with individuals across the company to identify and define target market segments, market requirements, key business strategies, and the competitive landscape. The engineer will also participate in and lead project meetings to gather essential market information, provide insights from a manufacturing perspective, and ensure that product and project specifications meet financial targets. The engineer will be responsible for developing a full product concept, including specifications, features, benefits, pricing, and projected sales volume. They will prepare compelling narratives to justify the need for new products and report to review boards and company leadership as required. Additionally, the engineer will work closely with the factory finance and production teams to calculate manufacturing costs and ensure timely delivery of project objectives. Supporting product testing at third-party labs and collaborating with factory engineers will be essential to ensure certification. The engineer will also create and revise installation manuals, provide internal technical support for all products, and assist the sales team with benchmarking new products. Addressing quality issues and conducting field surveys to identify root causes will also be part of the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of HVAC industrial or related product experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of product development experience required.
  • Experience with scientific inquiry and research techniques preferred.
  • HVAC design and ventilation knowledge preferred.
  • Full understanding of new product development processes from concept to launch.
  • Effective project management skills including scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PPT, and Project.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with basic statistical methods.
  • Familiarity with change management processes.
  • Ability to communicate in Japanese and Spanish is preferred.
