About the position

BorgWarner PDS (USA) Inc. is seeking a Sr. Product Engineer for the Seneca Battery division, located in Seneca, South Carolina. This hybrid position allows for a combination of remote work and in-office presence at the specified location. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office. The role involves both international and domestic travel, which may be required up to 5% of the time. The Sr. Product Engineer will be responsible for coordinating and executing design and development engineering tasks, championing warranty solutions, and implementing cost reduction strategies. Key responsibilities include conducting drawing markups, performing stack analysis, and analyzing fasteners and joints. The engineer will also address manufacturing or product function issues, facilitate communication between functional teams, and lead initiatives for product and process improvements. In this role, the engineer will lead Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) activities at the Seneca work site, develop design solutions to manufacturing challenges, warranty issues, and cost reduction opportunities. They will present and market new design proposals to both BorgWarner and customer engineering teams, process designs through BorgWarner and customer engineering change management systems, and complete complex system and component-level stack-up studies. Additionally, the engineer will analyze and align Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEAs) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEAs), assess drawing deviations for functional risk and acceptance, and make decisions on design deviations based on engineering analysis. Collaboration with suppliers to enhance quality and address non-conformance and cost issues is also a critical aspect of this position. The engineer will create, review, and edit product drawings for design improvements, support production with problem-solving expertise, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions. Proficiency in data mining software such as Python and Matlab will be essential for addressing recalls, warranty risks, and product performance challenges in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform design and development engineering tasks.
  • Champion warranty solutions and implement cost reductions.
  • Conduct drawing markup, stack analysis, and fastener and joint analysis.
  • Solve manufacturing or product function issues and communicate these issues between functional teams.
  • Lead product and process improvements initiatives.
  • Oversee Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) activities across the Seneca work site.
  • Develop design solutions to manufacturing issues, warranty issues, and cost reductions.
  • Present and market new design proposals to BorgWarner and customer engineering teams.
  • Process designs in BorgWarner and customer engineering change management systems.
  • Complete complex system and component level stack-up studies.
  • Analyze and align DFMEAs and PFMEAs.
  • Analyze drawing deviations for functional risk and/or acceptance.
  • Approve or reject design deviations based on engineering analysis.
  • Work with suppliers to improve quality and address non-conformance and cost.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in product engineering, particularly in battery technology or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of design and development engineering principles.
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) methodologies.
  • Proficiency in data mining software such as Python and Matlab.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to conduct root cause analysis.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
