About the position

The Sr. Product Manager for Connected Consumer Products plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of innovative consumer products. This position requires a blend of creative thinking and analytical skills, coupled with a deep understanding of market dynamics. The Product Manager will oversee the entire product development process, from initial concept through to successful launch, collaborating closely with various teams including industrial and graphic designers, engineering, sales, finance, and operations. The goal is to create products that not only stand out in the marketplace but also resonate with consumers, ensuring they meet both sales volume and profit goals. In partnership with the Category Director, the Product Manager will develop comprehensive product strategies and roadmaps. This involves identifying key functions, features, and aesthetics of products, while also managing channel strategies across multiple trade channels. The role requires a proactive approach to market analysis, including competitive studies and leveraging market performance data from sources like retail POS, NPD, and Nielsen. The Product Manager will also be responsible for guiding the app development process, working with engineering teams and external vendors to ensure a seamless integration of technology and user experience. Additionally, the role involves developing a robust content management plan to enhance consumer value and maintaining daily communication with partner factories in Asia. The fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture of the organization demands adaptability and the ability to work under pressure, making strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the product development process from concept through successful launch.
  • Develop product strategies and roadmaps in collaboration with the Category Director.
  • Identify product functions, features, and desired aesthetics to resonate with customers.
  • Manage products and programs across multiple trade channels.
  • Conduct competitive studies and utilize market performance data for analysis.
  • Apply knowledge of trends and innovations to identify new product opportunities.
  • Guide the app development process in collaboration with engineering and external vendors.
  • Develop a content management plan and work with external content providers.
  • Monitor category performance to meet sales volume and profit goals.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to key customers as the product expert.
  • Communicate daily with partner factories in Asia.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or relevant areas.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant product development/marketing experience.
  • Proven track record of developing successful consumer products in the retail marketplace.
  • Strong product development background with knowledge of product management throughout the product life cycle.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with Chinese manufacturers and understanding production processes.
  • Experience with market research to drive customer experience excellence.
  • Experience in domestic and international trade shows for vendor and product sourcing.
  • Understanding of industrial design and tooling for consumer products.
  • Experience with connected devices is a plus.
  • Experience in startups or smaller innovation teams is helpful.

  • Experience managing a consumer product with evolving content as part of the value proposition.
  • Experience in multiple retail channels including Mass, Specialty, Home Centers/Hardware, Club, and Drug.
