About the position

The Sr. Product Manager for Infrastructure Platform and Services at Northwestern Mutual is responsible for driving product innovation in middleware infrastructure. This role focuses on enhancing product management capabilities and setting the strategic direction for app runtime, messaging, and integration platforms. The manager will collaborate with engineers and developers to define product vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with business outcomes and developer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for mid-term vision for the middleware product portfolio.
  • Establish clear product objectives and key results, fostering alignment among teams.
  • Craft a comprehensive product roadmap that meets developer needs and aligns with cross-functional initiatives.
  • Gather complex product requirements and validate them against the overall product vision.
  • Define long-term goals for products and team members, balancing priorities.
  • Proactively communicate and market domain products with stakeholders.
  • Leverage expertise in API gateways and messaging platforms to guide development.
  • Understand market trends in middleware platforms and prioritize work for architects and engineers.
  • Develop effective go-to-market and release methodologies for products.
  • Identify and resolve issues that may impair strategic, financial, or technical goals.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in Infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering.
  • At least 2 years in a Product Management role with agile team experience.
  • Demonstrated successful cross-functional work experience.
  • Excellent communication and strong facilitation skills.
  • Strong project management experience and business acumen.
  • High self-awareness and emotional intelligence (EQ).
  • Ability to translate product requirements into technical requirements.
  • Proven leadership partnerships and influence skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguity and solve complex problems.

  • Experience with market research and strategy development.
