About the position

The Sr. Project Engineer (Packaging & Automation) at Nestlé is a pivotal role responsible for providing technical leadership in the execution of capital projects within the factory, particularly focusing on packaging and automation equipment. This position is integral to the expansion of Nestlé's factory network, specifically at the new state-of-the-art facility in Glendale, Arizona, which emphasizes sustainability and innovative manufacturing processes. The engineer will oversee the entire project lifecycle, from preliminary development through to construction and commissioning, ensuring that all project deliverables are met in accordance with established key components. In the preliminary project development phase, the Sr. Project Engineer will assist in creating essential project documentation, including project charters and management plans, while also monitoring design progress to ensure adherence to project timelines and deliverables. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the design details provided by the design team to facilitate the development of bid packages for construction. The engineer will be responsible for selecting contractors and managing the contracting process based on established engineering methodologies. During project execution, the engineer will direct the installation, construction, and commissioning of projects, ensuring that all work aligns with the defined project scope. This includes managing project budgets, providing cost forecasts, and maintaining milestone schedules. The engineer will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with quality and GMP requirements, as well as safety regulations set forth by the FDA and OSHA. The role demands a self-directed approach to project management, with minimal supervision, while also providing technical support to factory operations and participating in continuous improvement initiatives. The Sr. Project Engineer will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring that all projects are executed with a commitment to product safety, quality, and environmental considerations. This position not only requires technical expertise but also a strong commitment to ethical conduct and open communication among team members and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for capital projects focusing on packaging and automation equipment.
  • Assist in the development of pre-project approval documents including project charters and management plans.
  • Monitor design progress and ensure deliverables are met according to project key components.
  • Coordinate bid package development and release for construction bidding and field execution.
  • Select contractors and contracting methods based on engineering methodologies.
  • Direct and execute installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned projects.
  • Manage project scope and secure approvals for changes based on engineering methodologies.
  • Control project budget and provide cost forecasts and cash flow projections.
  • Maintain project milestone schedules with integrated detailed scheduling as per project charter.
  • Monitor processes for compliance with quality and GMP requirements according to FDA and OSHA regulations.
  • Provide construction management and factory startup assistance as needed.
  • Evaluate, select, and issue contracts for construction firms through bidding and prequalification processes.
  • Support and participate in Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) and Total Performance Management (TPM).
  • Ensure project execution with a focus on safety and environmental impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent field.
  • Minimum 7 years of related work experience.
  • 4+ years' experience managing capital projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience using SAP and/or Microsoft Project preferred.
  • TPM experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and use problem-solving techniques to resolve issues.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to schedule resources effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in military or related environments.
  • Familiarity with Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) methodologies.
