About the position

The Sr. Project Engineer - Software at Konecranes is responsible for overseeing electrical and software engineering tasks related to overhead cranes and hoists within the Nuclear Equipment and Services (KNES) business. This role involves leading Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), providing technical supervision, troubleshooting, and ensuring customer satisfaction through effective communication and problem-solving. The engineer will work closely with project managers and installation supervisors to meet project deadlines and maintain configuration control of engineering documents.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a lead electrical/software engineer at site/office and provide technical supervision to other electrical engineers, technicians, craft, and other workers.
  • Work with the project manager to establish work requirements and determine site needs to keep customer acceptance moving forward.
  • Support the Installation Site Supervisor and troubleshoot/update computer programs such as PLC code or HMI programs.
  • Understand, read, design, and mark up single line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, and conduit drawings.
  • Calculate wire sizes, drive sizes, braking resistors, transformers, and overload protection for cranes up to 800 volts D.C. and 4160 volts A.C.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and solve problems by collaborating with other engineers and service technicians.
  • Lead the engineering/software efforts at the site to prepare equipment for testing and accomplish testing efficiently.
  • Maintain excellent customer relations and work to satisfy customer needs during testing/startup processes.
  • Provide input to design improvements and communicate effectively with the chief engineer.

Requirements

  • 4-year Electrical Engineering degree (BSEE, BSEET) or equivalent.
  • 5 to 10 years of electrical engineering experience in field startups, wiring, PLC and HMI programming, and setting up variable frequency drives.
  • Experience with Rockwell PLC/HMI, Siemens PLC/HMI, and Magnetek/Siemens VFDs programming.
  • Knowledge of NEC electrical code and ability to apply it effectively.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work with others to maximize productivity.
  • Customer-focused attitude with the ability to work with challenging individuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in nuclear and government facilities.
  • Ability to stay in the field for durations of 1-2 months at a time.
