About the position

The Sr Project Engineer at Berkshire Hathaway Energy is a pivotal role that encompasses a wide range of responsibilities related to electrical engineering projects. This position is primarily focused on providing engineering, procurement, and construction oversight for various technical, financial, and contractual electrical engineering projects. The Sr Project Engineer will manage major engineering projects that exceed $10 million, ensuring that all aspects of the project are executed efficiently and effectively. This includes direct involvement in negotiations and maintaining a strong focus on project execution and coordination. In this role, the engineer will respond to both operational and project needs, providing essential electrical engineering support for maintenance equipment and repairs at power plant facilities. The goal is to maximize reliable power generation and revenue from the region. The engineer will also play a crucial role in project planning, identifying and incorporating new ideas and technologies, and recommending economically viable projects. Managing assigned capital projects will involve understanding the technology, performing management of change requests, developing requests for proposals, and writing authorizations for expenditures to secure project funding. The Sr Project Engineer will maintain close contact with operations and maintenance teams to evaluate plant equipment performance and recommend design improvements. This role requires a thorough review of process and equipment designs to ensure compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and contract specifications. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for scheduling equipment installations, providing training, and supplying all necessary documentation and operating instructions. The position may also involve performing additional responsibilities as requested or assigned, making it a dynamic and integral part of the engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to operating and project needs by providing electrical engineering support for maintenance equipment and repairs at power plant facilities.
  • Provide technical input for project planning and incorporate new ideas and technologies for project development.
  • Recommend economically viable projects and manage assigned capital projects, including understanding technology, performing management of change requests, and developing requests for proposals.
  • Perform project estimates leading to writing authorizations for expenditures to acquire project funds.
  • Purchase required equipment and develop all pertinent P&IDs, PFDs, and line drawings.
  • Initiate, implement, and complete project work as assigned, managing all costs incurred and keeping scope changes and overruns under control.
  • Provide services to operations and maintenance, maintaining close contact to evaluate plant equipment performance and recommend design improvements.
  • Review process and equipment design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and contract requirements.
  • Schedule details of equipment installations with operations and maintenance, providing training and necessary OEM documents, spare parts lists, and operating instructions.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in electrical engineering, particularly in project management for large-scale projects exceeding $10 million.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices related to electrical systems and power generation.
  • Experience in procurement and construction oversight activities.
  • Ability to manage multidiscipline engineering projects and coordinate with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and experience in direct project negotiations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate plant equipment performance and recommend improvements.
