About the position

HOK is seeking a Sr Project Interior Designer to join their Sports + Recreation + Entertainment team in Kansas City. This role involves interpreting, organizing, and executing conceptual designs for projects, ensuring they meet client goals and project requirements. The designer will be responsible for various aspects of the design process, including space planning, material selection, and client presentations, while incorporating sustainable design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct programming efforts such as space planning, layout, and utilization of furnishings and equipment.
  • Develop innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetic, safe, and conducive to intended purposes.
  • Coordinate color and material palettes for projects.
  • Select and specify furniture, lighting, flooring, wall coverings, and artwork.
  • Estimate material requirements and preliminary costs for projects.
  • Incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
  • Render conceptual design ideas and prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings.
  • Prepare and conduct client presentations.
  • Prepare, correct, and update documents during schematic design and design development phases.
  • Solicit bids and assist Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation, and arrangement of materials.
  • Keep the project, or a phase of a project, on schedule.
  • Communicate with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements.
  • Support the Construction Administration phase by responding to RFIs, COs, and reviewing shop drawings.
  • Implement and utilize HOK Standards for all projects and processes.
  • Provide support to team members for specific field, style, or phase of interior design expertise.
  • Mentor and direct the work of less experienced staff and deliver performance evaluations.
  • Participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.
  • Foster a green workplace through sustainable work practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, interior design, or foreign equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience in interiors projects required.
  • Must be a professional Interior Designer and have passed the NCIDQ exam or be a registered Architect with a current license.
  • LEED credential required within 6 months of employment.
  • Proficiency in 3D Modeling software such as Revit, Sketchup, Lumion, Enscape, TwinMotion, and Rhino preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in Affinity software suite preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of design trends, construction methodology, and materials application.
  • Advanced knowledge of FF&E, architectural/interior finishes, lighting, signage, art, and color schemes.
  • Knowledge of buildingSMART, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Integrated Project Delivery (IDP).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
