About the position

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is seeking a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager to join its Clean Transportation team. This role focuses on providing technical assistance and project management expertise for the electrification of school buses in New York State. The successful candidate will work closely with public and private sector stakeholders to develop individualized fleet electrification plans, manage projects, and ensure alignment with NYSERDA's broader goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting clean transportation technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead NYSERDA's engagement with school bus operators and engineering firms to offer technical assistance and fleet electrification planning services to school bus operators statewide
• Actively manage projects with engineering firms developing individualized fleet electrification plans for school bus fleets
• Provide guidance and oversight to other team members managing school bus fleet electrification plan projects
• Stay apprised of the latest technical and market developments around electric school buses (ESBs) to inform NYSERDA's technical assistance program
• Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with ESB market stakeholders including industry participants, school districts, and electric utilities
• Identify and pursue opportunities for program improvement, including ways NYSERDA can better address equity in transportation
• Perform other tasks as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 7 years of relevant experience for Senior Project Manager or Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience for Project Manager
• Demonstrated record of success managing projects, preferably in the clean transportation or clean energy space
• Subject matter expertise in transportation electrification, with a preference for a technical understanding of electric vehicles (EVs) and/or electric utility operations
• Demonstrated experience supervising contractors and interacting with senior leadership in one's own organization and in other organizations
• Demonstrated ability to independently and simultaneously manage a broad portfolio of projects, including setting workplans, managing budgets, and overseeing internal and consultant work products
• Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent strategic planning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with a broad spectrum of both public and private sector stakeholders
• A strong understanding of the technical workings of zero-emission vehicles and charging
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite; familiarity with Salesforce preferred
• Master's/Advanced degree and 6 years of relevant experience for Senior Project Manager or Master's/Advanced degree and 4 years of relevant experience for Project Manager
