As a Senior Protein Research Scientist at ADM's Corporate Research center in Decatur, Illinois, you will play a pivotal role in leading ingredient innovation initiatives within the protein solutions sector. This full-time exempt position requires a highly motivated individual who can effectively collaborate with both internal and external partners, including ingredient and processing scientists, sensory and application specialists, as well as quality and operation leaders. Your primary focus will be on the development, analysis, and optimization of protein ingredients, ensuring that the Specialty Ingredients business is supported in a timely manner through a deep understanding of structure-function ingredient evaluations. In this role, you will manage the generation of scientific and research data to ensure global compliance of protein ingredients, aligning with regulatory and quality guidelines. You will also collaborate with various teams to support the Alternative Protein business, applying your knowledge of individual and multi-ingredient systems to accelerate innovation. Your contributions will enable productivity and process development research by generating scientific data and technical insights on finished ingredients, which are crucial for technology optimization. Cross-functional collaboration will be essential for faster innovation, working closely with teams focused on ingredients, processing, nutrition, sensory applications, regulatory compliance, marketing, and commercial strategies. This position requires a PhD in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Processing, or a related field, along with 2-5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 5-10 years of experience. A solid understanding of the use of proteins and other food ingredients in final food systems, their impact on human nutrition, sensory attributes, sustainability, and performance is essential. You should also possess knowledge of protein chemistry and functionality properties, as well as basic protein analytical techniques. Strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams, and a self-motivated attitude are critical for success in this role.
