About the position

The Senior Specialist, Public & Media Relations at Henry Ford Health System is responsible for developing and implementing innovative public relations and communication strategies to enhance the health system's brand and support key clinical service lines. This role involves storytelling, relationship building, and strategic communication efforts to promote research innovations, clinical advancements, and the organization's commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice. The specialist will work closely with various teams to coordinate messaging and track engagement metrics, while also serving as a project manager for major initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic public relations and storytelling strategies for key clinical service lines and priority areas.
  • Build and maintain relationships with mainstream and industry media outlets, actively pitching stories.
  • Create engaging content across various platforms including earned media, social media, and internal communications.
  • Serve as project manager for communications workstreams across major system initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with key internal partners, providing strategic support and counsel.
  • Coordinate messaging and approach in collaboration with communications and marketing teams.
  • Track metrics for engagement from communications plans and projects.
  • Assist with major media and other events as needed, including on-call support during emergencies.
  • Develop thought leadership and branding strategies for key physicians, including promotion plans for media appearances.
  • Implement news content strategies for various audiences as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in public relations or communications with increasing responsibility.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and digital communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work with a diverse group of leaders.
  • Critical thinking skills to distill complex medical concepts for broad audiences.
  • Passion for storytelling and a collaborative orientation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with strategic focus and attention to detail.
