About the position

The Public Relations Specialist is responsible for crafting and disseminating external communications, developing public relations strategies, and managing media relations to enhance the organization's image and presence. This role requires a strong understanding of public relations, media outreach, and effective communication across various stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

  • Writes, edits, and distributes external communications, including news releases, media pitches, publications, speeches, and blog posts.
  • Develops and implements public relations strategies and programs.
  • Identifies media opportunities and manages media relations and requests.
  • Helps maintain the organization's image and identity by enhancing presence through various communication channels.
  • Supports the implementation of marketing and promotional plans.
  • Interacts and communicates across a variety of stakeholder groups, presenting complex information in an understandable format tailored to the audience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, English, communications, marketing or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 years of public relations or communications experience.
  • Experience developing and executing media strategies and/or outreach campaigns.
  • Substantial knowledge of public relations and integrated media.
  • Profound understanding of corporate social responsibility and popular culture.
  • Demonstrated experience, results, and relationships with broadcast, radio, print and digital journalists.
  • Ability to balance daily tasks with long-term planning and strategy.
  • Strong working knowledge of a variety of public relations programs and practices.
  • Working knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style.
  • Familiarity with various social media and digital platforms including their advantages, limitations, and suitability for accomplishing company's public relations objectives.
  • Demonstrated multifaceted oral and written communication skills, with excellent grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to independently copywrite and correct basic and complex grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and syntax errors.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and manage workload to meet strict deadlines; maintain highest level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience with Adobe Design Suite, Microsoft 365 products (including Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook).
  • Experience using media-monitoring platform and dashboards preferred (ex. Cision).
  • Experience using online reputational management platform to manage and showcase online reviews preferred (e.g. BrightLocal).
