About the position

The Senior Purchasing Manager at SLPT is responsible for driving the strategy for global commodity purchasing within the fast-growing electric vehicle components portfolio. This role involves leading commercial negotiations, managing the purchasing functions for North America and Europe, and ensuring effective supplier selection and evaluation to align with company objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the purchasing and purchasing team for all commodities, from new product introduction to annual purchase/supplier maintenance.
  • Establish commodity strategies based on analytical data and drive domestic and global sourcing based on cost and supplier performance.
  • Act as the resident expert on purchasing specific commodities for brushless motors, PCBA's, controllers, and electronics.
  • Lead sourcing for supplier contracting from RFQ, supplier assessment, net present value analysis, negotiating, final sourcing, and launch.
  • Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) process by ensuring the sourcing of the best suppliers at the appropriate time and encouraging supplier involvement during the product design phase.
  • Ensure pre-production parts and materials are available as required and that tooling and component purchase orders are issued at the appropriate time.
  • Improve purchasing processes, controls, and procedures that support IATF and SLPT operating goals.
  • Develop future leaders by identifying mentoring opportunities, providing challenging assignments, and delegating stretch projects to accelerate development.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Engineering, Production, Program Management, Quality, etc.) to manage supplier selection and evaluation and drive decisions in alignment with Company objectives.
  • Prepare Annual Headcount, Expense, and Purchasing Price Variance Forecast for business planning purposes.
  • Prepare, review, and update monthly reports to track and forecast Purchasing performance to budget, providing clear direction and actions to ensure targets are met.
  • Identify and achieve cost reduction goals by collaborating with the parent company to leverage corporate purchasing power.
  • Establish and manage the annual and five-year budget planning requirements that link to the organization's business plan.
  • Initiate quoting that provides real cost estimates for Sales and Marketing, including a cost-competitive BOM for initial quoting to SLPT customers.
  • Conduct or support supplier manufacturing feasibility reviews and supplier kick-off meetings, and may also conduct and support supplier technical reviews.
  • Lead multi-discipline projects or teams and interface with change project teams.
  • Track, report, and communicate market conditions, pricing and supply trends, purchasing techniques, and new products.
  • Create and maintain PO's in MRP database.
  • Support cross-country (US and China) communication and transfer of business systems and practices for strategic purposes.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of Supply Chain experience focused in the automotive industry.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Program Management, or Engineering discipline required.
  • Six Sigma or comparable improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with high voltage battery products, brushless motors, PCBA's, and electronic components preferred.
  • Experience with purchasing major commodities including Electronics, Die Castings, Sintered Metal, Stampings, Machined, and Cold Headed products.
  • Essential negotiation and leadership skills, proactive team player, sense of responsibility, drive for results, self-motivated and goal-oriented attitude.
  • Demonstrated leadership of work teams and working across functions.
  • Exceptional presentation, written, analytical, and verbal communication skills.
  • High energy, teamwork, and passion for developing team members.
