About the position

The Senior Purchasing Manager will oversee the purchasing team for a global automotive supplier, focusing on electronic and machined products procurement. This role is critical in establishing commodity strategies, driving sourcing initiatives, and managing supplier relationships to support the company's growth and new manufacturing facility launch.

Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing team for all commodities, from new product introduction to annual purchase/supplier maintenance
  • Establish commodity strategies and drive domestic and global sourcing based on cost and supplier performance
  • Act as the resident expert on purchasing specific commodities for brushless motors, PCBA's, controllers, and electronics
  • Lead sourcing for supplier contracting from RFQ, supplier assessment, net present value analysis, negotiating, final sourcing, and launch
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) process, ensuring sourcing the best suppliers at the appropriate time
  • Encourage supplier involvement during the product design phase and ensure pre-production parts and materials are available as required
  • Issue tooling and component purchase orders at the appropriate time
  • Improve purchasing processes, controls, and procedures that support operating goals
  • Develop future leaders, identify mentoring opportunities, and provide challenging assignments
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Engineering, Production, Program Management, Quality, etc.) to manage supplier selection
  • Prepare Annual Headcount, Expense, and Purchasing Price Variance Forecast for business planning purposes
  • Prepare, review, and update monthly reports to track/forecast Purchasing performance to budget
  • Identify and achieve cost reduction goals by collaborating with the parent company
  • Establish and manage the annual and 5-year budget planning requirements
  • Initiate quoting that provides real cost estimates for Sales and Marketing
  • Conduct or support supplier manufacturing feasibility reviews and supplier kick-off meetings
  • Lead multi-discipline projects or teams and interface with change project teams
  • Track, report, and communicate market conditions, pricing, and supply trends
  • Create and maintain PO's in MRP database and support cross-country communication

Requirements

  • 10+ years of Supply Chain experience focused on the automotive industry
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Program Management, or Engineering discipline required
  • Six Sigma or comparable improvement methodologies
  • Experience with high voltage battery products, brushless motors, PCBA's, electronic components preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership of work teams and working across functions
  • Exceptional presentation, written, analytical, and verbal communication skills
  • High energy, teamwork, and passion for developing team members/programs

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electronic components and major commodities such as Electronics, Die Castings, Sintered Metal, Stampings, Machined, Cold Headed products
