About the position

The Sr Accountant at Huntsman Cancer Institute is responsible for performing complex accounting tasks, including the preparation of financial statements, reviewing general ledger account balances, and providing guidance to lower-level accounting personnel. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with established accounting principles, while also supporting the organization's mission to reduce the cancer burden in the communities served.

Responsibilities

• Performs financial level approval and review for purchase requests submitted through Ushop and ePR.
• Reviews all transactions for accuracy, sufficient funding, and proper approvals.
• Reconciles external financial data with University data and resolves discrepancies.
• Assists with reviewing, researching, and processing wire payments as needed.
• Answers questions, helps correct errors, resolves accounting-related issues, and provides financial information as requested.
• Assists client departments with year-end closing to ensure adjustments and accruals are properly recorded.
• Interprets policies and recommends internal controls.
• Provides guidance to colleagues in the Finance, Research Administration, and General Administration departments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
• Two years of professional accounting experience.
• Thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices.
• Knowledge of accounting software and advanced spreadsheet skills.
• Ability to write queries and macros.
• Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, human relations, and effective communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Certifications as a Certified Public Accountant may be preferred for certain positions.
