About the position

Qualitest is seeking a Senior QA Engineer with a Business Analysis background to join our team in San Diego, CA. This role is pivotal as we embark on a significant transformation of a complex transportation fare system, transitioning from an outdated on-premises version to a modern solution hosted on Azure cloud. The project is already underway, with requirement decomposition and Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) creation initiated. We are looking for an experienced professional to provide additional support in these areas as soon as possible. In this position, you will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including product managers, developers, and project engineers, to thoroughly understand and decompose business requirements. Your ability to translate these requirements into clear, concise, and testable functional and non-functional specifications will be crucial. You will also be responsible for developing comprehensive test cases and procedures based on the decomposed requirements, executing these test cases across multiple platforms and devices, including ticket vending machines and mobile points of sale. Identifying, documenting, and tracking defects will be part of your responsibilities, ensuring timely resolution to maintain the quality and reliability of the transportation fare system. Additionally, you will work in a collaborative environment, ensuring seamless integration and deployment of the fare system. You will provide clear and concise reports on test progress, results, and quality metrics to stakeholders, facilitating communication between technical and non-technical parties. Mentoring and guiding junior QA engineers will also be part of your role, contributing to the overall growth and development of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and decompose business requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into clear, concise, and testable functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive test cases and test procedures based on decomposed requirements.
  • Execute test cases across various platforms and devices, including ticket vending machines and mobile points of sale.
  • Identify, document, and track defects, ensuring their timely resolution.
  • Perform thorough testing of the transportation fare system to ensure high quality and reliability.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of the fare system.
  • Provide clear and concise reports on test progress, test results, and quality metrics to stakeholders.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Help mentor and guide junior QA engineers when needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance and Business Analysis, preferably within the transportation or technology industry.
  • Proven experience in requirement decomposition, test case writing, and test execution.
  • Proficiency in QA tools and methodologies (e.g., JIRA, TestRail).
  • Strong understanding of complex fare systems and open fare technology.
  • API testing experience.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ticket vending machines and mobile points of sale is highly desirable.
