About the position

Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is seeking a Senior Robotic Systems Integration Engineer within our Robotics & Digital Solutions organization, located in Santa Clara, CA. This role is pivotal in supporting the implementation of frameworks and processes necessary for the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the Johnson & Johnson OTTAVA Robotic System within the R&D organization. The Robotics and Digital Solutions division is dedicated to transforming healthcare through innovative robotic technologies that enhance the capabilities of healthcare providers and improve patient outcomes. Established in 2020, this division integrates various platforms including Flexible Robotics (MONARCH), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA), and Digital Solutions, and is part of Johnson & Johnson Med Tech. As a Senior Systems Integration Engineer for Operations, you will work closely with the team lead to ensure the effective functioning of the OTTAVA Robotic System. This role encompasses a blend of hardware, software, robotics, and clinical engineering, providing a unique opportunity to engage with clinicians and key opinion leaders while observing their interactions with the system. Your responsibilities will include operating the system during clinical labs, troubleshooting and resolving issues, documenting novel challenges, performing software installations and smoke testing, and providing engineering test support for R&D applications. This position is ideal for individuals with a passion for medical robotics, offering a chance to gain in-depth technical knowledge and contribute significantly to the OTTAVA program.

Responsibilities

  • Support the team lead in implementing the framework and processes to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the systems.
  • Act as a technical expert for setting up, operating, maintaining, and debugging the system in clinical labs.
  • Document issues that arise in clinical labs and resolve them by collaborating with hardware, electrical, and software teams.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues that commonly arise across the R&D system fleet.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to understand and modify existing code.
  • Work with mechanical or electrical engineers to upgrade hardware components.
  • Maintain the configuration and records of all systems used for development and verification.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Software Engineering, or other equivalent degree) with 5+ years of industry experience or MS Engineering or other equivalent degree with 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and delegate to other engineers and technicians.
  • Fundamental understanding across software, controls, robotics, mechanical, and electrical engineering, with depth in one or more areas and the ability to quickly learn new technical areas.
  • Experience in partitioning and decomposing complex engineering problems into solvable problems.
  • Understanding of engineering concepts such as system architecture, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Proven understanding of programming concepts and ability to modify existing code (e.g., C++ or Python).
  • Excellent self-starter with a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
