About the position

The Sr Regulatory Affairs Specialist at Lamb Weston is responsible for ensuring compliance with food labeling regulations across multiple categories. This role involves creating, reviewing, and approving label copy and artwork designs, collaborating with various internal teams, and providing guidance on regulatory issues. The specialist will also support the Labeling Manager in overseeing category-specific labeling practices and contribute to process improvements within the regulatory framework.

Responsibilities

  • Provide food labeling expertise and guidance to internal customers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Regulatory, Marketing, Sales, Product Development, Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Purchasing, and plants to ensure compliance in the marketplace.
  • Develop label copy including product name, weight statement, ingredient statement, allergen declaration, nutrition facts panel, and claims that meet government requirements.
  • Approve label artwork upon review, ensuring compliance with USDA, FDA, and other regulations.
  • Support review of labels and printed packaging by Regulatory and Legal Counsel.
  • Ensure accuracy in the development of Label Copy and support of all product claims.
  • Contribute to the development of labeling personnel in regulatory compliance and accountability.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to increase accuracy and efficiency in labeling practices.
  • Assist in the development of internal policies and procedures related to labeling and claims support standards.
  • Provide training regarding new/changed labeling regulations and trends that may impact customer or branded labels.
  • Manage processes within Regulatory Affairs to improve efficiency and standardization across categories.
  • Supervise other Regulatory Affairs Specialists to ensure consistency in labeling policies and procedures.
  • Manage communication of country-specific compliance and trade updates to cross-functional teams.
  • Identify and communicate regulatory concerns and develop compliance strategies for cross-functional teams.
  • Assess regulations to determine compliance-related priorities in the marketplace.
  • Provide guidance to ensure compliance for international and domestic markets.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of food industry labeling experience or comparable experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of FDA, USDA food label regulations and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to work with multiple database systems and network efficiently to gather required information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong report and technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Excellent relationship and development skills.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products and various virtual meeting platforms.
