About the position

The Sr. Remote Asset Process Engineer at Georgia-Pacific is responsible for supporting process optimization through remote asset monitoring of paper machine operations. This role involves collaboration with the Collaboration and Support Center (CSC) based in Atlanta, GA, while working onsite at the Wauna Mill in Clatskanie, Oregon. The engineer will focus on asset health, process control, and optimization, utilizing technology to enhance manufacturing processes. The position requires strong technical and communication skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Start each day by reviewing areas/assets of responsibility, including deviations, trends, and potential problems, and notify appropriate subject matter experts (SMEs) and the site.
  • Review optimization opportunities on areas/assets of responsibility and engage SMEs, vendors, and site personnel in projects to optimize performance, cost, and quality.
  • Collaborate with the CSC team (GP and vendors) on chronic problems or large opportunities to leverage combined skills for problem-solving.
  • Communicate daily with operators and optimizers to review operations.
  • Assist the Artificial Intelligence team in building AI models.
  • Partner with the Process Control team to develop and tune control loops.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering.
  • 4 or more years of experience working within or supporting manufacturing teams.
  • Experience presenting complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience with Osisoft PI or relevant experience with other process historians.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in process engineering.
  • Experience in continuous or discrete manufacturing.
