About the position

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Sr. Research Analyst for Aerospace, a role that is pivotal in supporting the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. This position is located in College Park, MD, and requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance. The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, along with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the aerospace sector. The role is designed for individuals who are passionate about contributing to national security and have a strong background in missile technology, hypersonic, and space technology. As a Sr. Research Analyst, you will be responsible for maintaining subject matter expertise in hypersonic and space technology. You will provide critical support to analysts in the development of time-sensitive products and strategic documents, such as technology area protection plans. This position requires collaboration with a team of skilled professionals who are dedicated to delivering high-quality products under tight deadlines. You will also evaluate protection strategies to safeguard U.S. investments against foreign technology transfer attempts. Responsibilities

  • Support the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, specifically in the Maintaining Technology Advantage Branch.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in hypersonic and space technology.
  • Provide SME support to analysts in the development of critical time-sensitive products.
  • Support the development of strategic products, like technology area protection plans, for hypersonic and space technologies.
  • Work with a team of other SMEs and analysts to meet short deadlines and deliver quality products.
  • Evaluate protection strategies to defend US investments from foreign attempts at technology transfer.

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related subject
  • 10+ years of professional experience
  • Top Secret Clearance with SCI-Eligibility
  • Experience with Missile Technology, hypersonic and/or space technology
