About the position

We are seeking a Sr. Research Assistant to join our team in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. The position is crucial for the success of ongoing and upcoming clinical research projects and will work in collaboration with the Principal Investigator, project leadership, Project Manager, and other study coordinators to organize and conduct research. The major focus of the Sr. Research Assistant is supporting the ACTFAST program: Adopting Comprehensive Training for Firearm Safety in Trauma Centers at both the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. This program will unite multiple professional teams and community groups to provide comprehensive clinician education to set a national standard for supporting the trauma-informed promotion of firearm safety in the inpatient setting. The Sr. Research Assistant will be responsible for maintaining organized study records, carry out study-related activities, and will communicate regularly with the PI and study team. This position will play a vital role in the recruitment and enrollment of Spanish-speaking participants. This Sr. Research Assistant may also participate in data analysis, writing and submitting manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and submitting and presenting work for national and international conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation and conduct of clinical research protocols through participant screening, recruitment, enrollment, and follow-up activities at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
  • Assist in the collection of biospecimens.
  • Review and evaluate clinical and imaging data in the electronic health record.
  • Maintain and update trauma patient logs (e.g., for eligibility).
  • Collect and enter participant data.
  • Assist with translation, Spanish to English and English to Spanish (e.g. intervention materials, surveys).
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and research study records.
  • Carry out all study duties in accordance with study protocols and procedures as well as local and federal regulations.
  • Participate in data analyses; may produce ad hoc reports related to study recruitment and retention.
  • Perform statistical programming and data analysis. Understand the importance/impact of data integrity in terms of patients, study results, and scientific research in general.
  • Assist with composing and submitting manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication of research.
  • Prepare and present research for national and international conferences.
  • Attend internal and external trainings, workshops, conferences, and other relevant programs for growth and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Nice-to-haves

  • MPH or MS in relevant field preferred.
