About the position

The laboratory of Dr. Jotham Suez at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking a Sr. Research Data Analyst with extensive experience in analyzing biological data, particularly in the field of microbiome analysis. This position is part of a hybrid experimental-computational team that utilizes big data, including metagenomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics, to study the microbiome and virome in relation to human health and disease. As a Sr. Research Data Analyst, you will collaborate closely with members of the Suez Lab to tackle significant questions that lie at the intersection of basic sciences and public health. Your role will involve analyzing large-scale datasets using advanced bioinformatic tools, developing and implementing novel computational approaches for data analysis, and interpreting and presenting complex biological data to facilitate discovery. Additionally, you will mentor and advise on the statistical and computational aspects of experimental design, and you will have the opportunity to lead independent, computationally focused projects. Candidates for this position should possess a degree in a relevant subject with a strong analytical component, such as bioinformatics, statistics, molecular biology, or mathematics, and should have an established track record in microbiome research, evidenced by publications or preprints. The position offers flexibility in terms of work arrangements, allowing for remote, hybrid, or in-person work, and can be full-time or part-time. The Suez Lab is committed to fostering a collegial, welcoming, and inclusive environment for scientists from diverse backgrounds, and encourages individuals from underrepresented groups in biomedicine to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide bioinformatics expertise to help Suez Lab scientists achieve their research objectives.
  • Inform on the experimental and analytical design process.
  • Analyze complex datasets using a wide range of biological resources and bioinformatic methods.
  • Apply analytical expertise to help scientists interpret results and make research decisions.
  • Work independently at all points of the data analysis workflow.
  • Mentor Suez Lab members by sharing expertise and experience.
  • Participate in the writing of grants and research proposals.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Molecular Biology, Mathematics or relevant discipline with an extensive analytical component.
  • Established track record (publications, preprints) in microbiome research.
  • One year of related experience with varied types of high-throughput sequencing data and analysis, particularly microbiome shotgun metagenomics.
  • Experience with virome profiling, packages for identification of antimicrobial resistance in metagenomic datasets, transcriptomics, and metabolomics.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • Retirement savings plan
  • Flexible work arrangements (remote/hybrid/in-person)
  • Support for career development and training opportunities
