About the position

The Sr. Research Data Analyst position at Johns Hopkins University involves extensive analysis of biological data, particularly focusing on microbiome research. The role is part of a hybrid experimental/computational team that utilizes big data to study the microbiome and virome in relation to human health and disease. The analyst will collaborate with lab members, lead independent projects, and mentor others while employing advanced bioinformatic tools and methods.

Responsibilities

  • Provide bioinformatics expertise to help Suez Lab scientists achieve their research objectives.
  • Inform on the experimental and analytical design process.
  • Analyze complex datasets using a wide range of biological resources and bioinformatic methods.
  • Help scientists interpret results and make research decisions.
  • Work independently at all points of the data analysis workflow.
  • Mentor Suez Lab members by sharing expertise and experience.
  • Participate in the writing of grants and research proposals.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Molecular Biology, Mathematics or relevant discipline with an extensive analytical component.
  • One year of related experience with varied types of high-throughput sequencing data, particularly microbiome shotgun metagenomics.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience.
  • Experience with virome profiling, antimicrobial resistance identification in metagenomic datasets, transcriptomics, and metabolomics.
