The position involves developing evidence-based medical policy reviews to provide timely clinical effectiveness information on various medical technologies, including procedures, devices, diagnostic tests, and drugs. The role requires analyzing medical evidence and drafting medical policy, which includes complex analyses and evidence synthesis for review by the BCBSA Medical Policy Panel (MPP) and, in select cases, the BCBSA Medical Advisory Panel (MAP). The candidate will be responsible for identifying, critically appraising, and summarizing scientific literature and clinical practice guidelines related to medical technologies. This includes performing thorough and objective analyses of the research design and validity of conclusions from current literature and unpublished data. The individual will prepare clear, documented, and defensible reports that summarize this information as evidence summary reports for presentation to the MPP and MAP. Additionally, the role involves providing technical expertise to facilitate the Panel's review processes and contributing to the scientific quality, credibility, and consistency of BCBSA Reference Medical Policies through participation in the peer review process and various learning activities such as Learning Sessions, Journal Clubs, and team meetings. The candidate will utilize their expertise in a designated clinical specialty to serve as a resource to Medical Policy Services (MPS) staff and the MPP. Moreover, the position includes supporting MPS Leadership in managing and performing various MPP-related operations and other special projects as requested, such as contributing to research needed for updating search strings and researching topics relevant to BCBSA external engagements and quality measures.
