About the position

The Risk Control Consultant position at Travelers involves providing in-depth account knowledge related to hazards, controls, and management for complex accounts. The consultant will work closely with underwriters to evaluate risk factors and differentiate accounts within similar business classes. This role requires a strong focus on risk assessment and mitigation strategies, ensuring a valued customer experience through effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Underwriting, Claim, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers.
  • Complete all lines risk assessment evaluations for diverse businesses with high complexity.
  • Write technically detailed reports that communicate risk assessments and recommendations.
  • Evaluate customer needs through loss analysis and readiness to provide Risk Control products and services.
  • Identify uncontrolled exposures and influence customers to make improvements.
  • Provide solutions for risk mitigation using available resources.
  • Stay current with technical subject matters and regulatory environments.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in specialty areas to support the broader team.
  • Create a valued customer experience through assessments and service encounters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, or related fields.
  • Seven years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or a related field.
  • Advanced level knowledge of the insurance industry and business acumen.
  • Recognized relevant certifications (such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS).
  • Technical aptitude and detail-oriented approach.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility and rapport quickly.
  • Experience in a collaborative environment.
  • Critical thinking and influencing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in manufacturing or large warehouse operations.
  • Knowledge of regulatory environments and emerging issues.
