About the position

AbbVie is seeking a knowledgeable and self-motivated scientist to join the Computational Drug Discovery group within the Discovery Research organization. This role focuses on developing and advancing AI/ML technologies for computer-aided drug design, with an emphasis on molecular generation and drug-target interaction prediction. The candidate will collaborate with various disciplines to enhance drug discovery processes using state-of-the-art computational techniques.

Responsibilities

• Identify, develop, optimize, validate, and deploy innovative methods for molecular generation and drug-target interaction prediction.
• Leverage AI/ML models to enhance molecular design capabilities.
• Collaborate with internal computational chemistry and cheminformatics groups to accelerate drug discovery.
• Implement, debug, and maintain computational tools in common programming languages.
• Utilize cloud computing capabilities for computational solutions.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Chemistry, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Cheminformatics, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience with a BS, 8+ years with an MS, or 0-3+ years with a PhD in developing machine learning models related to chemical and biological data.
• Expertise in developing and deploying machine learning and cheminformatics solutions.
• Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with data science libraries such as numpy, pandas, and scikit-learn.
• Experience with deep learning platforms like Pytorch, Tensorflow, or Keras.

Nice-to-haves

• Expertise in AI/ML-enabled molecular generation and affinity prediction.
• Familiarity with KNIME, Pipeline Pilot, or other automation interfaces.
• Knowledge of modern deep learning architectures such as GNN, CNN, RNN, and Transformer.
