About the position

We are in search of a highly motivated candidate to join our talented Team as a Sr. Scrum Master in Baltimore, MD. The Sr. Scrum Master will lead multiple cross-functional teams or Agile Release Trains (ART), guiding them on how to effectively use Agile methodologies, including the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, and Lean practices such as Kanban. This role emphasizes servant leadership and aims to create and nurture a culture of continuous learning and growth mindset within the teams and ART. The Sr. Scrum Master will be responsible for enhancing agile maturity through the application of agile practices, metrics, and SAFe guidelines, while also removing blockers and partnering with leadership to ensure successful project delivery. In this position, the Sr. Scrum Master will facilitate the team's progress toward their goals, acting as a facilitator for multiple teams or as the Release Train Engineer (RTE) for a SAFe Agile release train. This includes engaging in continuous improvement efforts to enhance team performance in areas such as quality, predictability, flow, and velocity. The Sr. Scrum Master will lead team efforts in relentless improvement, facilitating retrospectives and teaching problem-solving techniques to empower teams to become better problem-solvers. Additionally, the role involves facilitating various team meetings, ensuring adherence to the Definition of Done (DoD), and fostering effective communication and conflict resolution within the team. The Sr. Scrum Master will also support the team's efforts to improve communications and relationships with other teams, coordinating work to enhance flow and throughput. This includes representing the team in Scrum of Scrums and other program-level ceremonies, as well as supporting the Product Owner and Product Management in managing the backlog and maintaining a healthy team dynamic. The role requires the elimination of impediments by engaging the right stakeholders and improving transparency within the organization. Furthermore, the Sr. Scrum Master will exhibit Lean-Agile leadership behaviors, driving cultural change to enhance agility within the teams and ARTs.

Responsibilities

  • Leads multiple cross functional teams or Agile Release Train (ART) guiding them on Agile methodologies.
  • Creates and nurtures a culture of continuous learning and agile maturity in teams/ART.
  • Facilitates the team's progress toward team goals as a facilitator or Release Train Engineer (RTE).
  • Engages in continuous improvement to enhance team performance metrics.
  • Leads team efforts in relentless improvement and facilitates retrospectives.
  • Teaches problem-solving techniques to empower teams.
  • Facilitates team meetings such as Daily Stand-up, Iteration Planning, and Iteration Retrospective.
  • Ensures adherence to the Definition of Done (DoD) and team agreements.
  • Facilitates discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution within the team/ART.
  • Supports the team's efforts to improve communications and relationships with other teams.
  • Coordinates work with other teams to improve flow and throughput.
  • Represents the team in Scrum of Scrums and other program-level ceremonies.
  • Supports the Product Owner and Product Management in managing the backlog.
  • Eliminates impediments by engaging the right stakeholders.
  • Improves internal and external communication and transparency.
  • Exhibits Lean-Agile leadership behaviors to nurture a Lean-Agile Mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • 8 years of experience in Lean and Agile methodologies, including 3+ years as a Scrum Master or Kanban lead.
  • Proven success in leading multiple Agile teams to maturity and improved customer outcomes.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a Scrum Master on a SAFe Agile release train.
  • Experience in leading change and continuous improvement with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in value stream mapping and system-level optimizations using Lean techniques.
  • Knowledge of Product Ownership, DevOps, and Test Automation practices.
