About the position

The Sr. Security Specialist position is located in the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response, focusing on the security of NRC-licensed nuclear facilities. The role involves serving as an authoritative expert in security and safeguards licensing, developing policies, and providing technical oversight for inspection programs. The specialist will also engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies and industry representatives, to ensure compliance with security regulations and enhance the safety of nuclear operations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a leading Agency authoritative expert for security of NRC-licensed nuclear facilities and programs.
• Develop and review policies related to security requirements of operating commercial power reactors and other facilities.
• Perform technical and project management of inspection program development and maintenance.
• Identify and resolve programmatic issues involving licensing and security assessments.
• Present staff positions and lead technical discussions with various committees and agencies.

Requirements

• At least one year of specialized experience at the GG-14 level or equivalent in the private or public sector.
• Demonstrated knowledge of physical protection systems and security programs for NRC-licensed facilities.
• Experience leading physical security-related inspections and knowledge of the reactor oversight process.
• Ability to conduct independent technical analyses related to physical security regulations and programs.
• Strong communication skills for presenting technical information to stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience as a qualified NRC physical security inspector.
• Knowledge of NRC regulations and regulatory guides related to physical security.
