About the position

The Security Officer at ESPN is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the premises, responding to emergencies, and enforcing security protocols. This role involves monitoring fire and HVAC systems, conducting inspections, and providing leadership during incidents. The officer will also perform various security duties, including campus rounds, access control, and vehicle inspections, while maintaining a professional presence and providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all Main Security Office functions including security enforcement and emergency response.
  • Monitor fire and HVAC systems and communicate with local police and fire departments.
  • Perform core Rover duties including campus rounds, break coverage, building inspection, and perimeter patrol.
  • Photograph new employees/contractors and create identification cards.
  • Assist Facilities Service Center in call taking and dispatch functions according to established procedures.
  • Provide leadership during responses to medical, fire, security, and other safety-related emergencies and incidents.
  • Write comprehensive reports following established procedures after incidents.
  • Monitor fire alarm control panel and interpret alarm indicators for emergency type and location.
  • Rapidly reposition to the location of possible emergencies and respond within a three-minute timeframe from the initial alarm.
  • Complete and issue hot work permits and conduct inspections per established hot work permit processes.
  • Conduct fire watch assignments in designated hot work areas.
  • Perform Security Associate and Security Specialist duties as needed.
  • Identify and recommend security protocol or procedural enhancements.
  • Monitor company property, identify and report safety and security hazards, and secure property as directed.
  • Provide security presence at special events and direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic as needed.
  • Perform general security system checks and access control duties at high traffic exterior posts.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and monitor campus parking regulations according to established procedures.
  • Create work orders documenting requests for services and dispatch maintenance personnel accordingly.
  • Assist in the distribution and tracking of related departmental keys.
  • Monitor hand-held radio channels for communication between groups and process requests for facilities services.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three (3) years of security or law enforcement experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a Driver's license valid in the state of Connecticut.
  • Possess a DMV Class F Public Passenger Endorsement on Connecticut Driver's License or apply for a Class F endorsement within 30 days of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check, DMV check, and urinalysis drug screen.
  • Must currently possess and maintain a valid CT Guard certification or be able to attain it within two (2) weeks of employment.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules (hours and days off) and work overtime as approved.
  • Ability to perform basic work tasks on computers, including using MS Outlook email and Word.
  • Maintain a professional presence in image and interactions at all times.
  • Must complete required hot work permit training.
