About the position

The Sr. Service Engineer - Electronics at Rolls-Royce Solutions America Inc. is responsible for troubleshooting complex product issues, applying engineering principles to electronic controls and operating systems, and providing technical guidance to designers and engineers. This role involves field inspections, failure analysis, and ensuring compliance with specifications for engines and components, particularly in the context of internal combustion engines and electronic controls.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and determine the cause of complex product problems through failure analysis and research.
  • Apply engineering principles related to electronic controls and operating systems for various applications, including hybrid systems and batteries.
  • Perform field inspections of failed parts to identify primary causes and reduce future incidents.
  • Check component parts for conformance with specifications.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to MTU designers and engineers on experimental hardware, controls, software, and calibrations.
  • Perform operation, maintenance, and repair of engines to ensure compliance with MTU specifications.
  • Diagnose electronic engine control systems and troubleshoot issues related to CAN settings, emissions, and hybrid faults.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Controls Technology, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in failure analysis or service engineering with internal combustion engines or electronic controls.
  • Experience with the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  • Experience applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of internal combustion engines.
  • Experience designing, using, repairing, and maintaining mechanical or electrical engines.
  • Experience with major engine overhaul and the tune-up of diesel engines and components.
  • Experience with diesel equipment electronic control and monitoring systems.
  • Experience with diesel uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Experience with mechanical and electronic engine control operation.
  • Experience with reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
