About the position

SMX is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join our team on a new program and work with some of the best technologists in the market. This position is remote and supports a Washington, DC based program. The Senior Site Reliability Engineer will provide senior-level implementation support services and subject-matter expertise to SMX clients on IT consulting engagements. The role involves analyzing engineering-design concepts and recommending design or test methods through the CI/CD pipeline to attain or improve specified operational reliability. Additionally, the engineer will lead the enhancement of standardized operational tasks and failure scenarios through automation, providing oversight on the continuous improvement of the application stack by researching, analyzing, and testing new technologies. In this role, the Senior Site Reliability Engineer will participate in troubleshooting infrastructure and application-related issues, produce well-written technical project documentation, and provide guidance and leadership to the SRE team. The engineer will also perform internal team technical reviews and work closely with customers and the SRE team to identify, develop, deploy, and maintain solutions. A key aspect of the position is to identify and support continuous improvement opportunities to increase system reliability and to deploy and configure cloud services according to best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes engineering-design concepts and recommends design or test methods through CI/CD pipeline for attaining or improving specified operational reliability.
  • Leads enhancement of standardized operational tasks and failure scenarios through automation.
  • Provides oversight on continuous improvement of the Application stack by researching, analyzing, and testing new technologies.
  • Participates in troubleshooting of infrastructure and/or application related issues.
  • Produces well-written technical project documentation.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to SRE team.
  • Performs internal team technical reviews.
  • Works with customer and SRE team to identify, develop, deploy, and maintain solutions.
  • Identifies and supports Continuous Improvement opportunities to increase system reliability.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of technical experience supporting complex hosting infrastructure programs (Cloud, on-prem, cybersecurity, network).
  • Experience in troubleshooting infrastructure and/or application related issues.
  • Ability to produce well-written technical project documentation.
  • Experience in providing guidance and leadership to SRE team.
  • Experience in performing internal team technical reviews.
  • Ability to work with customer and SRE team to identify, develop, deploy, and maintain solutions.
  • Experience in identifying and supporting Continuous Improvement opportunities to increase system reliability.
  • Experience in deploying and configuring cloud services according to best practice.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent technical experience.
