About the position

The Sr. Site Reliability Engineer at Visa plays a crucial role in ensuring the stability and performance of critical applications within the Product Reliability Engineering (PRE) group. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain software products that support Visa's global payment technology. The engineer will engage in proactive maintenance, automation, troubleshooting, and application releases, contributing to the overall reliability of Visa's systems.

Responsibilities

• Support critical applications and ensure their stability through proactive maintenance activities.
• Engage in automation activities and perform root cause analysis and remediation.
• Write and maintain scripts to monitor system activity, including application smoke tests during production implementations.
• Develop and maintain automation tools for engineering and application support tasks.
• Troubleshoot production issues, provide immediate service restoration, and follow up on root cause analysis to implement permanent fixes.
• Coordinate and execute application releases and production deployments.
• Manage the performance and tuning of several Visa applications.

Requirements

• 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Experience in Development or DevOps roles (2-5 years preferred).
• Strong knowledge of databases such as MySQL, MSSQL, or Oracle.
• Proficiency in UNIX Shell scripting, PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages.
• Expertise in troubleshooting applications in middleware stacks like Tomcat, Apache, Kafka, MQ, and streaming services like Flink and Spark.
• Experience supporting systems on Linux and Windows environments.
• Good understanding of cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and operating models.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and Ansible.
• Understanding of monitoring solutions like Prometheus, Splunk, and Grafana.

Nice-to-haves

• 3+ years of work experience with a Bachelor's degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD).
• Experience with applications written in Go and Rust.
• Experience implementing CI/CD processes for seamless deployments.
• Participation in release-level discussions and familiarity with the total SDLC and Agile methodology.
