About the position

The Sr. Site Reliability Engineer at Visa plays a crucial role in ensuring the stability and performance of critical applications and systems that support Visa's global payment network. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain software products while engaging in proactive maintenance, automation, and troubleshooting activities. The engineer will also be responsible for managing application releases and deployments, contributing to the overall reliability and efficiency of Visa's technology infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Support critical applications and ensure their stability through proactive maintenance activities.
  • Engage in automation activities and perform root cause analysis and remediation for production issues.
  • Write and maintain scripts to monitor system activity, including application smoke tests during production implementations.
  • Develop and maintain automation tools for engineering and application support tasks.
  • Coordinate and execute application releases and production deployments.
  • Lead troubleshooting bridge calls for production issues, providing immediate service restoration and follow-up on root cause analysis.
  • Manage the performance and tuning of several Visa applications.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Very good knowledge of databases such as MySQL, MSSQL, or Oracle.
  • Mandatory knowledge of UNIX Shell scripting, PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages.
  • Experience in troubleshooting applications in middleware stacks like Tomcat, Apache, Kafka, and MQ.
  • Experience supporting systems running on Linux and Windows environments.
  • Good understanding of cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and operating models.
  • Core skills in Docker and Kubernetes.
  • DevOps experience with Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 or more years of work experience with a bachelor's degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD).
  • Experience in application development using Go and Rust.
  • Good understanding of monitoring solutions like Prometheus, Splunk, and Grafana.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD processes for seamless deployments.
