About the position

The Sr. Site Reliability Engineer at AppFolio plays a crucial role in building and maintaining reliable infrastructure for the AppFolio Real Estate Platform. This position focuses on improving service reliability, quality, and observability while collaborating with engineering teams to enhance their services and infrastructure. The engineer will be responsible for developing strategies for exception reporting, capacity planning, monitoring, and disaster recovery, ensuring the infrastructure supports the company's growth and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Build common infrastructure to improve reliability and quality of services.
• Ensure all aspects of shared product spaces have plans for exception reporting, capacity planning, monitoring, and alerting.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance the reliability and quality of their services and infrastructure.
• Develop Service Level Indicators and Service Level Objectives for systems.
• Diagnose and monitor performance and reliability issues across the stack.
• Write code to perform critical tasks in production environments.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Manage container orchestration using Kubernetes or similar technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of industry experience or equivalent work experience.
• Experience developing Service Level Indicators and Service Level Objectives.
• Proven ability to diagnose and monitor performance and reliability issues across various systems.
• Strong coding background with experience in languages such as Go, Ruby, or Python.
• Expertise with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
• Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration technologies.
• Familiarity with Amazon Web Services, including EKS, RDS Aurora, Lambda, S3, EBS, Route53, DynamoDB, and VPCs.

Nice-to-haves

• Mastery experience with Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Linux, and Networking.
• Experience with container orchestration beyond Kubernetes.
