About the position

The Sr Software Development Engineer will join the AWS Open Data Analytics Engines team, focusing on enhancing core analytics services like Athena and EMR. This role involves hands-on development, design, and implementation of key components of the query engine, with a strong emphasis on performance improvements and scalability. The engineer will also mentor junior team members and engage with the open-source community to drive innovation in serverless analytics solutions.

Responsibilities

• Hand-on development for core components of the query engine
• Design and develop solutions and algorithms to improve performance of Spark and/or Trino
• Interact and partner in the open source community
• Ensure data consistency and durability with breakthrough performance and scalability
• Improve the organization's automation and testing capabilities
• Manage complex deliverables project and research projects with deadlines
• Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and engine good practices
• Be a point of contact for challenging customer issues around query engine problems

Requirements

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Nice-to-haves

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
