About the position

Lightmatter is seeking a collaborative engineer or scientist to develop APIs that connect photonic hardware with advanced interface systems. This role is crucial for enabling efficient data processing and driving innovation in photonic AI and computing, contributing to the development of the world's first optical computers.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain APIs to support the flow of live and historical data between backend services and the frontend Next.js application.
• Develop APIs that represent hardware systems for monitoring and management.
• Design and implement scalable backend services for efficient communication between microservices and the frontend.
• Implement robust security protocols such as OAuth and JWT for secure API access, emphasizing data encryption.
• Develop solutions for handling real-time data using technologies like WebSockets for low-latency transmission.
• Collaborate with the frontend team to ensure seamless integration of backend APIs, focusing on dynamic data fetching and processing.
• Write automated tests to ensure API reliability and performance, and maintain clear documentation for API usage.
• Continuously monitor and optimize API performance to reduce response times and improve scalability.

Requirements

• BS and 12+ years of experience or MS and 8+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in API development using systems focused on API design and performance optimization (e.g., OpenAPI, RESTful services, API Gateway, microservices architecture).
• Strong understanding of API design principles and best practices for building scalable, secure, and high-performance services.
• Experience with security protocols (OAuth, JWT) and data encryption techniques.
• Expertise in real-time data handling, including WebSockets or similar technologies.
