About the position

The Marketplace Consumer Incentives team at Uber plays a pivotal role in driving the company's profitability and growth through the development of efficient incentive structures across various business lines, including Uber Rides and Uber Eats. This team is at the forefront of leveraging advanced technologies such as machine learning, causal inference, and constrained optimization to optimize and personalize incentive structures that enhance consumer engagement. The team's efforts are crucial in maintaining a healthy ecosystem and ensuring a pleasant and sticky experience for Uber's customers. Given the scale of Uber's promotional activities and the visibility at the executive level, the impact of this team's work is significant, making it essential to focus on the right problems within this domain. Historically, the team has delivered substantial growth impacts for Uber, showcasing its importance within the organization. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for building world-class, large-scale machine learning systems focused on incentives, pioneering an end-to-end user incentives experience. The candidate will innovate and productionize state-of-the-art machine learning models tailored to Uber's specific use cases. Collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders will be key, as the candidate will drive innovations in user incentive experiences, ensuring that the solutions developed are not only effective but also aligned with the broader goals of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Build world-class, large-scale incentives machine learning systems.
  • Pioneer end-to-end user incentives experience.
  • Innovate and productionize state-of-the-art incentives machine learning models.
  • Customize machine learning models for Uber's specific use cases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional incentive stakeholders to drive user incentive experience innovations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience with a PhD in relevant fields (CS, EE, Math, Stats, Physics, etc.) or 5 years of industry experience with a Masters Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience building and productionizing innovative end-to-end machine learning systems.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
  • Expertise in deep learning, recommendation systems, or optimization algorithms.
  • Proficiency in one or more coding languages such as Python, Java, Go, or C++.
  • Experience with technologies such as Spark, Hive, Kafka, or Cassandra.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Machine Learning, Statistics, Optimization, and/or Data Mining.
  • Experience in simplifying/converting business problems into machine learning problems.
  • Experience developing complex software systems that scale to millions of users with production quality deployment, monitoring, and reliability.
  • Experience presenting at industry-recognized machine learning conferences and a good publishing record.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of USD$185,000 - USD$205,500 per year for San Francisco and Sunnyvale, CA-based roles.
  • Eligibility to participate in Uber's bonus program.
