About the position

The Senior Software Engineer at Sierra Nevada Corporation - Mission Solutions and Technology will play a crucial role in supporting various US Navy programs. This position involves leading software development efforts, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet military standards. The engineer will work closely with system and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and integrate existing software into new systems, contributing to the mission of providing advanced technology to the defense industry.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day software development for small projects
• Mentor junior engineers
• Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features
• Modify existing C++ and Java software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance
• Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
• Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components
• Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and obtain information on project limitations and capabilities
• Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
• Write or review software and system documentation
• Coordinate software system installation at customer sites
• Peer review teammates' code

Requirements

• Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline
• Typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
• Understanding of Computer Aided Engineering tools
• Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
• Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
• Understanding of C++, Java, Embedded Systems, and Linux
• 5+ years of Leadership Experience
