About the position

As a Senior Solution Engineer specializing in State and Local Government at Esri, you will leverage your expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to address complex business challenges faced by our customers. Your role will involve not only identifying the right analysis tools but also creating innovative solutions that demonstrate the power of GIS technology. You will join an account team where your primary responsibility will be to advise customers, showcasing how GIS can uncover unique patterns and trends that drive business value. In this position, you will build strong relationships with technical enterprise-level decision-makers, leading technical meetings that are crucial for driving revenue. As a technical leader, you will be expected to have an advanced understanding of Esri technology and local government operations. You will utilize your knowledge to develop complex solutions tailored to the needs of Esri's most strategic customers, ensuring that you understand their business structures, workflows, and integration points with third-party systems. Your problem-solving skills will be essential as you proactively craft and propose solutions that clarify how GIS can address critical challenges faced by our customers. You will define and deliver strategies that align Esri technology with the business needs of our largest customers. Additionally, you will be responsible for designing presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences, providing configuration guidance, and sharing best practices. Your role may also involve presenting at large conferences and executive engagements, further solidifying Esri's position as a leader in GIS technology.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with technical enterprise-level decision makers.
  • Present, demonstrate, and support selling Esri software and solutions as part of the account team.
  • Lead technical meetings that drive revenue.
  • Act as a technical leader of Esri technology and a subject matter expert of local government.
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of sales strategies and initiatives to develop complex solutions.
  • Understand an organization's business structure, workflows, third-party business systems, and integration points.
  • Share knowledge and coach new team members on best practices.
  • Proactively craft and propose solutions that clarify how GIS brings business value to customers.
  • Define and deliver complex strategies that align Esri technology with customer business needs.
  • Design presentations for technical and non-technical audiences within Esri's largest customers.
  • Provide configuration guidance and best practices.
  • Present at large conferences and executive engagements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with Esri technology creating maps, performing spatial analysis, and configuring web applications.
  • 3+ years of experience in state or local government.
  • Broad knowledge of ArcGIS from an IT context (hardware, storage, security, networking, web services, virtualization, cloud computing).
  • Demonstrated experience in technical consulting and conceptual solution design.
  • Understanding of sales and business development processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot client issues related to Esri application deployment and system architecture.
  • Experience with geodatabases and underlying DBMS technology.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and environments (Microsoft Azure or AWS).
  • Experience integrating software solutions with other business systems including data warehousing, BI, CRM, ERP, and analytics platforms.
  • Programming and scripting experience with languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Remarkable presentation, interpersonal, and listening skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally 25-50% of the time.
  • Bachelor's degree in geography, computer science, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience incorporating real-time information streams with existing GIS data and IT infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of digitalization strategies that include mobile, IoT, advanced analytics and data science (AI/ML), and imagery.
  • Master's degree in geography, computer science, or a related field.
