About the position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Sr. Specialist, Employee Benefits & Wellness in the HR Benefits department. This position is hybrid and requires travel to our Hyde Park campus as needed. The Sr. Specialist, in collaboration with the Director of Benefits, plans, coordinates, and assists in the management of the health and wellness benefits at UChicago Medicine. This role provides internal consulting and coaching services for both leaders and staff to align a diverse healthcare workforce and a supportive environment for good health. The Sr. Specialist promotes, tracks, and delivers evidence-based wellness programs/resources that increase health awareness, engage employees, facilitate behavior change, and provide skills linked to reducing modifiable health risks and the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, the position assists in the development of metrics and reporting tools to track and evaluate results, develops marketing, project and implementation plans, and manages event and program budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop & deliver evidence-based health promotion programs/resources that increase health awareness, engage employees, facilitate behavior change, improve biometric scores, and provide skills to reduce modifiable health risks.
  • Lead project manager for all major initiatives.
  • Supervise & manage health and wellness operations (i.e. eligibility files, databases, staff, purchases and equipment).
  • Collaborate with vendors and other supportive departments to align with key wellness initiatives.
  • Reconcile employee health and wellness data and take action to correct variances.
  • Coordinate services such as health fairs, lifestyle competitions, behavior modification programs, education, and targeted health intervention initiatives.
  • Manage event and program budgets.
  • Support the design of incentive strategies that maximize employee participation and engagement.
  • Create and develop communication materials/publication announcements for events and ongoing services with the guidance of leadership.
  • Provide internal strategic coaching services (Train the trainer) for both leaders and staff.
  • Manage and design wellness intranet page.
  • Run and produce statistical/operational reports for core health & wellness functions.
  • Conduct data mining to analyze and present quantitative and qualitative data against scorecard and industry benchmarks.
  • Participate in company-wide/department special projects and related initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences or related field; master's degree preferred or related work experience.
  • Minimum 7-10 years' experience in the coordination, or management, of a worksite wellness program, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Able to perform and coordinate biometric screening such as body composition and blood pressure; interpret HRA results; screenings for cholesterol, lipids and diabetes, provide direction/counsel as needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent personal and interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state wellness related laws and regulations.
  • Ability to navigate HRIS system, tools and vendor carrier websites.
  • Ability to make decisions and operate independently with respect to complex business requirements.
  • Proactive problem identification and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer advocacy skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a changing environment and deal with ambiguity; change agent.
  • Competence in managing multiple projects simultaneously with a strong results/goal orientation while meeting required deadlines.
