About the position

The Sr. Specialist, Internal Communications & Channels will play a pivotal role within the Corporate Communication team at BD, one of the largest global medical technology companies. This position is designed for an individual who is passionate about internal communications and is eager to contribute to the company's mission of advancing the world of health. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the company's internal communications and channel strategy, which includes mastering the intranet's Content Management System (CMS), driving content governance and compliance, and overseeing a global group of content intranet editors. This role is crucial in ensuring that associates are engaged and informed through effective communication tools and channels. In this position, the Sr. Specialist will handle the day-to-day operations of the company intranet, coordinating with site managers and editors, providing necessary training, and maintaining email distribution lists. The role also involves initiating content audits and monitoring compliance with established guidelines. The individual will manage the homepage to ensure a balanced presentation of content and tools, while also leading projects aimed at improving processes and content based on site analytics. Collaboration with colleagues and managing relationships with intranet vendors for upgrades and deployments will be essential. Additionally, the Sr. Specialist will support broader Corporate Communications initiatives, including event coordination and corporate award program administration. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, capable of working independently while also being a creative team player who thrives in fast-paced settings. The position emphasizes the importance of handling sensitive situations with diplomacy and maintaining a thoughtful approach to communication.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day operation and management of the company intranet, including coordinating site managers and editors.
  • Providing training and CMS access, maintaining email distribution lists and Viva Engage community membership.
  • Initiating content audits and monitoring for compliance to guidelines.
  • Managing the homepage to maintain a proper balance of content and tools, and well thought-through global navigation.
  • Monitoring site analytics and leading projects for process and content improvements.
  • Partnering with colleagues in liaising with and managing intranet vendor, including new upgrades and deployments.
  • Managing Help Desk/IT tickets assigned to intranet team.
  • Managing common administrative tasks in the intranet software, and partnering with IT as appropriate.
  • Working closely with key stakeholders to understand their needs and involve them in planning and problem solving.
  • Supporting the broader Corporate Communications team on enterprise initiatives, including event coordination, corporate award program administration, and content planning, development and amplification across a variety of channels/mediums.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or equivalent.
  • At least 3+ years related professional experience or equivalent via internship setting, with 2+ years implementing or managing web sites or intranets.
  • Background with Content Management Systems (CMS) required and Viva Engage preferred.
  • Basic understanding of HTML.
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of graphics tools (Photoshop) and collaboration platforms (SharePoint); graphic design and video editing experience a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in corporate communications or internal communications roles.
