About the position
The Senior Specialist, Project Engineer plays a crucial role in managing the technical aspects of projects within the organization. This position combines project management skills with technical leadership to ensure that projects meet their technical, schedule, and cost targets. The Project Engineer will oversee the engineering product development activities throughout various phases of a product's lifecycle, including pursuit, development, production, and post-delivery support. The role requires effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams and customers to ensure project success and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets to meet project objectives on time and within cost constraints.
- Engage with cross-functional leaders to advocate for the program's needs and priorities.
- Interface with customers on technical and contractual requirements to ensure satisfaction and business expansion.
- Work with PM and Proposal Lead to decompose business case and customer contract requirements into Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) elements.
- Support the development of detailed Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and construct viable schedules (IMS).
- Lead the technical development of the program and manage engineering resources.
- Serve as the focal point for engineering development, product definition, and resource allocation.
- Direct the engineering team, manage their performance, and oversee their participation in the program.
- Communicate effectively with the PM and maintain a collaborative relationship with the project team.
- Engage in risk management to identify potential issues and develop mitigation strategies.
- Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques (e.g., EVM).
- Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages innovation and excellence in project execution.
- Ensure alignment and compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience is required.
- Proven work experience as a Project Engineer or in a similar role.
- Experience as a control account manager (CAM).
- Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
- Experience using Root Cause Analysis techniques.
- Ability to obtain security clearance from the US Government, which requires US Citizenship.
Nice-to-haves
- Electrical, Electronics, Software Engineering Degree.
- MS Project experience (Generating and Maintaining project schedules).
- At least 2 years experience with EVMS and Root Cause Analysis techniques.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Power Bi experience.
- Military customer experience.
- Experience with space products.
