Cognizant is seeking a Senior SQL DBA Consultant to join our Cloud, Infrastructure, and Security Services Practice. This hybrid position is based in Philadelphia, PA, and is open to qualified individuals in the United States. The SQL DBA Consultant will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across various environments. In this role, the Senior SQL DBA Consultant will be responsible for the installation, administration, and maintenance of SQL Server instances across multiple versions, including 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019. The consultant will address and resolve various database issues such as blocking, deadlocking, replication, log shipping, connectivity, and security. Performance tuning and query optimization will be key aspects of the role, utilizing tools like Performance Monitor and SQL Profiler to enhance database efficiency. The consultant will also manage database migrations, including data center migrations, and will conduct regular health checks and monitoring of database systems. Incident and problem management will be part of the responsibilities, along with performance monitoring and tuning of TSQL queries. Familiarity with AWS cloud services and AlwaysOn technology is essential, as well as proficiency in PowerShell and shell scripting. The position offers a competitive salary range of $100,000 to $110,000, depending on experience and qualifications, along with eligibility for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, administer, and maintain SQL Server databases on Windows and Linux environments.
  • Resolve blocking, deadlocking, replication, log shipping, connectivity, and security issues.
  • Perform performance tuning and query optimization using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler, and other monitoring tools.
  • Manage database migrations and data center migrations, particularly on SQL Server 2016.
  • Conduct regular database health checks and monitoring.
  • Handle incident management and problem management for database issues.
  • Monitor performance and tune TSQL queries to improve performance.
  • Utilize AWS cloud services and AlwaysOn technology as required.
  • Develop and execute PowerShell and shell scripts for database management.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with SQL Server installation, administration, and maintenance across multiple versions (2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving database issues such as blocking, deadlocking, and replication problems.
  • Proficient in performance tuning and query optimization techniques.
  • Solid understanding of database migration, backups, restores, and recovery models.
  • Experience with database clustering, mirroring, and replication.
  • Hands-on experience with data center migrations, particularly on SQL Server 2016.
  • Knowledge of database space storage management and regular health checks.
