About the position

The Sr. SQL DBA will join the Defense Enclave Services (DES) team at Leidos, supporting critical data system services and operations for DISA and Fourth Estate Agencies. This role involves managing and optimizing SQL databases, ensuring data security and integrity, and providing expert technical support in a complex IT environment focused on modernization and consolidation efforts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the overall structure of data assets, including data models, data dictionaries, and data flow diagrams.
• Ensure data security and integrity, performance tuning and optimization, and backup/recovery of NIPR/SIPR MSSQL/MySQL databases.
• Conduct database capacity planning, security, and auditing in compliance with STIG requirements.
• Analyze business processes and procedures, making recommendations for system/software solutions.
• Provide Tier 3 Microsoft SQL Server support, solving complex issues with sound solutions.
• Apply best practices for tuning SQL databases to improve overall system performance.
• Support software development and testing throughout the software development lifecycle, including incremental script execution and defect resolution.
• Review proposed database structure changes and gain approval to modify based on best practices.
• Research interfaces to identify and code required updates to support integration.
• Ensure software releases are fully supported and gain approvals before implementing new changes into the production environment.
• Create and maintain all SQL databases required for development, testing, and production usage.
• Control migrations of programs, database changes, reference data changes, and menu changes through the development life cycle.
• Establish standards to ensure all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security, and performance; perform frequent reviews on design and code to ensure compliance with site standards.
• Plan and assist application developers and system administrators to ensure new SQL products or release upgrades occur with minimal impact.
• Troubleshoot all problems regarding SQL databases, applications, and development tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of prior relevant experience; additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Tier 3 MS SQL Server Support experience.
• Ability to solve complex problems and present solutions to leadership.
• Must hold current DoD 8570 IAT2 certification Security+ CE or higher.

Nice-to-haves

• Strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Experience with MS SQL versions 2000, 2005, 2008R2, 2016.
• Experience with Oracle Database.
